Air quality

What
is the general situation with the ISSUE
The monitoring of atmospheric air
pollution in Tashkent is
conducted by "Uzglavgidromet" periodically on the 12
substances. The quantitative characteristics of air quality is the total
index of atmospheric pollution, which is determined as the sum
of exceedings of break even norm on 5 substances with
the highest concentration and actual concentrations of each
substance.

Republic of Uzbekistan
According to the data of
"Uzglavgidromet", in Tashkent the high level of the
atmospheric pollution is to be observed, moreover the total index of the
atmospheric pollution has increased up from 5,62 in 1996
to 6,48 in 1999 at the expence of increase in emissions
from autotransport and in emissions from big enterprises outside the
city. The quantity of dust in the air has
droped because of improvement of sanitary condition of the
city, but it is still higher than break even norms. As
compared with 1996, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide has
increased on 50%, because of increase of burned fuel on
autotransport; the concentration of ammonium hydrate has increased
on 30% because of high use of old refrigeratory equipment and the
emissions from enterprises of Chirchic town. Because of
strengthenening of the Government control over toxicity level of
exhausted gases from automobiles, the pollution of the atmosphere by
the carbon oxide lowered.
The
concentration of ozone has decreased on 43%, but it is still beyond
the norm (1,3 of break even concentration). The average annual
concentrations of other substances do not exceed the break even
concentration. There are no observations on the content of
super-toxic substances, and toxic compounds of lead in the city. In
the structure of dust there is no solid particles, the size of which
is up to 10 micron. They are the most harmful for the organs of
breath. |
