Overview of the environment in our city

Tashkent is the industrial city with the well-developed autotransport system, that is why it has the same ecological problems as the other big cities. Except this, it is the center of Tashkent agglomeration, and there are many big enterprises of power-engineering, chemistry, metallurgy, agriculture and cattle-breeding around it. They also strongly influence the condition of the environment in Tashkent.
The ecological problems of Tashkent agglomeration were collected during decades as it was not given any special attention to them. They can be explained by the utilization of old technologies and technical equipment, by the lack of power during the processing of industrial and consumer waste, by the bad technical condition of autotransport and low quality of automobile fuel, the salinity of soils and over-indulgence by chemicalixation in agriculture.  Another reasons were not so perfect legislation on protection of the environment, the absence of ecological mechanism of nature utilization, and the ecological ignorance of the population.
The level of the atmospheric air pollution in Tashkent is much higher the sanitary norms, and it primarily depends on the  emissions from automobile transport and big enterprises, which are situated around the city. The pollution of the air increases during hot seasons because of the sanitary condition of streets and burning of spontaneous dumps, which are occured from the fall of the leaves and the cutting of trees and shrubs. Periodically, the observations on the pollution of the atmospheric air are conducted; the stationary units are situated near big enterprises, that is why the dependence of the level of pollution of the atmospheric air from the total emission is not always adequate.
The acid rains are not seldom in the city. They damage trees, architectural memorials, buildings, and create discomfort to the population. The reason of these rains is the emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide by the movable sources and by big enterprises of Tashkent region.
The water objects of Tashkent city are polluted by different chemical compounds and suspended matters much higher the norms because of effuent discharge by enterprises of the city, drainage of surface water and precipitations from polluted territiries, as well as because of of lack of sewerage system. Some waterflows on the entry into Tashkent are polluted by industrial enterprises, cattle-breeding and agricultural objects.
During long period of time it was not given appropriate attention to the problem of utilization of industrial and consumer waste, which are almost completely were removed for the burial on the out-skirts of the city. In 1997, after the implementation of the State statistical book-keeping the first steps on their utilization were made.
Tashkent is one of the greenest cities of the Central Asia with the rich and diversified flora and fauna for the built-up areas. During last yearsthe animal and vegetative world of the city has chanched naturally and anthropogenicly.
The city is very rich by the architectural buildings, which also need help.
During last decade the organizational and technical measures on the environment enhancement are conducted in Tashkent. They have already given some results.
